I'm excited that the new Disney movie is done in 2D (traditional) animation, and it will be a musical!
Not so excited about all the princess marketing that will come with the movie though... but it's nice that finally there will be a black princess to add to the bunch!

Kevin Bacon has launched SixDegrees.org, a social networking site for charity, loosely based on the ever-popular game 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon'.
SixDegrees.org accepts donations toward the favourite charities of participating celebrities, among them Kanye West and Nicole Kidman. Anyone can link to the "badges" of celebrities, or make their own badge to sponsor a favourite charity, illustrated with their own stories and photos.
Bacon will match the top six non-celebrity fundraisers with grants of up to $10,000 each.

A neat idea started at The Burble; these are perennial favourites of mine. I'm the type of person who watches movies multiple times (usually, I'd prefer to watch a movie I've already seen than something on TV), but these are all-time favourites that I've watched so many times I can practically recite the lines. Yes, I realize that most of it's fluff; not all-time great movies, but that's the thing about favourites, at least, for me: they're comforting, safe, and like an old friend that you want to visit again and again.

If you're anything like me, you look forward to seeing your favourite Christmas specials on TV at this time of year. Sure, they may be cheesy, old fashioned, and I may have seen them a dozen times each, but it just doesn't seem like Christmas unless I've seen a few of them.
My personal favourites are How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Mickey's Christmas Carol, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and The Santa Clause. I also love The Little Drummer Boy, and The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, although I don't watch them as often. Hubby's favourites are A Christmas Story and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

I'm a big movie fan. I enjoy today's blockbusters and romantic comedies, and the occasional horror or foreign film, but on the whole, my tastes tend to sway towards the classics. There are a lot of movie musicals, epic dramas, and black & white films in my collection. Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn and Carey Grant all have their own sections in my movie collection (and then there's my Disney movies, but we won't get into that right now).
I'm a bit of a list person. I like to have a grocery list when I'm shopping, a list of cleaning to-do (which never seems to end), and I have a list of "Books I Want to Read in my Lifetime", which is huge, but I'm making a substantial dent in (again, lots of classics - not too much that's been written in the past few decades). Anyways, I thought I'd see how I'm doing with the American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American films of all time. Not too bad... 31 out of 100, and there are some on there that I don't really have the urge to watch anyways. I think I'll visit the library soon to borrow a few that I haven't seen yet. (And yes, I know, it's terrible that I've never seen 'The Godfather' or 'Jaws'!)

Remember to watch (or tape to watch later) 'My Ancestors were Rogues and Murderers', an award winning documentary about the history of the seal hunt, which will air on CBC Newsworld's 'The Lens' tonight, Saturday, April 8th, 2006 at 10:00 pm ET/PT.

I saw V for Vendetta on the weekend. To be honest, I hadn't heard much about the movie (aside from the fact that Natalie Portman shaved her head for the role), and I'm glad I didn't know much about it, going in.
I have to say, I really liked it. The movie contains a lot of interesting messages, although I want to see it again to fully process how I feel about it. It's about a totalitarian British government roughly 20 years from now, which has severely restricted its citizens' movements, resulting in people fighting back against their government to reclaim their lives. It also deals with question of where the line is between terrorist and freedom fighter. I don't necessarily agree with the violent ways of fighting back in this movie, or everything done by 'V', but the movie is obviously an extreme example to make a point. All in all, it was a very thought provoking. I urge you to go see it, even if it's not the sort of movie you usually like.
I think watching the movie without knowing a lot about it is the way to go, so you won't have many preconceived notions, but if you must, you can watch the trailers here.

I'm a big Disney fan.
Let me amend that.
I went to Disney World on my honeymoon last year. I'm a big fan of classic Disney, and Disney animated features (the ones that are shown in movie theatres) from before 2002. But frankly, I think the animated features have been going downhill in a big way, and now that Disney has abandoned traditional animated features in favour of cheaper computer animation, my love affair with Disney is waning.
The thing that bugs me the most is the sequels. Oh God in heaven, THE SEQUELS. It makes me wonder if the folks at Disney have a creative bone left in their bodies. I used to have every Disney movie. I bought all of the animated features, and even started buying the direct to video sequels of animated features. I have The Rescuers Down Under, the Aladdin sequels, The Lion King 2... Lord help me I even have The Little Mermaid 2. Then I started to realize that in general, they're not very good! In fact, some of them downright suck. My frustration hit a peak when Disney released Cinderella 2. (It's happily ever after!!! There shouldn't BE a sequel!!)
Finally, I've found someone who shares my frustration enough to write about it. The 7th Level has an article about Disney sequels that's funny, truthful, and for those of you with children, tells you which sequels are tolerable, which are just plain bad, and which ones you shouldn't watch
